The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to a recent comment credited to Enugu-based fire-brand catholic priest, Rev Father Ejike Mbaka, where he called on the pro-Biafran youths protesting for the immediate release of Radio Biafra Director and Leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to go back to their businesses as the protests could lead to their death.
During a sermon at his weekly Adoration Ministry, Mbaka was said to had criticised Biafra supporters who embarked on the massive protests across South-East and South-South states, to demand Kanu's immediate release.
Kanu is still being held in detention by the Department of State Services, despite having been granted bail by the court.
Mbaka had said: "Locking up your shops and disrupting economic activities will not add any naira to your pocket, whatever grievance you have could be resolved through dialogue,'' he said.
However, responding to Mbaka, in a broadcast on Biafra Radio, IPOB denounced him as a compromised priest speaking from both sides of his mouth.
Deputy Leader of IPOB, Uche Mefor, who fired back at the cleric, stressed that "Biafra is more than money!"
Mefor noted that the youths are protesting against injustice, oppression and subjugation, which is motivating them to seek their freedom.
The deputy leader further wondered why Mbaka who is a priest could not find courage to condemn Nigeria government's extrajudicial detention of Kanu. He also advised him to refute his statement immediately if he was misquoted.
According to Mefor, Biafran youths have seen the truth having been enlightened on the need to restore Biafra, and nothing can stop them from demanding their rights.
Meanwhile, the lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, Egechukwu Obetta, has recently made a statement, in which he listed his next steps.
According to Obetta, they comprise hosting "a meeting of representatives of all non-governmental organizations in Nigeria, as well as the petitioning the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the National Human Rights Commission, the National Assembly and the Nigeria Bar Association."
Several foreigners have been identified among the victims of Friday's deadly terrorist attacks in Paris, which left at least 129 dead and more than 350 injured.
According to an AFP tally from various official sources around the world, at least 23 foreigners lost their lives in the attacks. French officials have warned that the toll is likely to rise with several hundred also hurt, dozens seriously.
A breakdown of the victims by country:
ALGERIA: Two Algerians were killed, the official APS news agency said, citing diplomatic sources as saying the victims were a woman aged 40 and a man aged 29.
BELGIUM: At least three Belgians including a dual French national were killed, according to the Belgian foreign ministry. Press reports said they included Elif Dogan, 26, and Milko Jozic, 47, who had been living in Paris for four months. The third victim was reported to be 28 and also have French dual nationality.
BRITAIN: Nick Alexander, 36, was killed at the Bataclan concert hall, his family said. British media reports said he sold merchandise for the Eagles of Death Metal band that was playing at the time of the attack. The Foreign Office said a "handful" of other Britons were feared dead.
CHILE: Three Chileans were killed in the attacks. Patricia San Martin, 55, the niece of Chile's ambassador to Mexico and her daughter Elsa Delplace. The third victim was Luis Felipe Zschoche Valle, a musician, Chile's foreign ministry said.
GERMANY: Germany's foreign ministry said one of its citizens was killed, without giving further details.
MEXICO: Two Mexicans were killed, one with dual Spanish nationality, the foreign ministry said.
MOROCCO: One Moroccan was killed and another injured, according to the embassy in France.
PORTUGAL: Two Portuguese nationals are reported to have died, according to the Lisbon government. One of them, Manuel Dias, 63, was a driver and had just dropped off three passengers near the Stade de France, where he was killed.
The other, Precilia Correia, 35, worked at the FNAC in Paris and was killed at the Bataclan, where she had gone with her French boyfriend, who also killed. Born in France to a Portuguese father and French mother, she had dual nationality.
ROMANIA: Two Romanians were killed, according to the foreign ministry in Bucharest, giving only first the names of the victims: Ciprian, 32, and Lacramioara, 29. They were celebrating a birthday party at the Belle Equipe bistro and had an 18-month-old child.
SPAIN: Spanish authorities said 29-year-old Juan Alberto Gonzalez Garrido was killed while attending the concert at the Bataclan theatre. Spanish press reports said Jorge Alonso de Celada was killed at a restaurant and Alberto Pardo Touceda died in the concert attack.
SWEDEN: One person of Swedish nationality was wounded by gunfire and another was killed, according to the foreign ministry, which said it was still verifying the information.
TUNISIA: Two young Tunisian sisters who lived in the French region of Creusot were killed while celebrating a friend's birthday in Paris, according to the Tunisian foreign ministry.
UNITED STATES: California State University student Nohemi Gonzalez, 23, was killed in the attacks, the university said. She had been studying industrial design.
Other US citizens and a Swiss woman are reported to be injured, while two Brazilians were wounded in the attacks, President Dilma Rousseff said.
The waiting was the worst part, says Alexis Breuil, 26, the not knowing if his little sister is alive or dead, or somewhere suffering in a hospital bed alone. Breuil was standing at a little cocktail table at L'Ecole Militaire, fiddling with his iPhone, trying hard not to look at it for news because his battery was dying but unable to resist checking every few minutes for word of his sister.
He ignored the little plate of chocolate cookies placed in neat rows on a gilded paper tray in front of him. The reception room could have been set up for a party, with a smoking area outside, cocktail tables and coffee on one end and dining tables at the far end. Red cushioned chairs lined the walls as if at a middle school dance and in many of them sat some 75 people in various states of distress. Some wept quietly. Every now and again, someone would get a call—that dreaded call—and they would break down, wailing. Emergency workers in bright orange and red vests would gently nudge them from the room outside.
It was a seasonably warm evening in Paris, the kind that would usually see lovers strolling the banks of the Seine, not far away. But tonight, Paris's streets were relatively empty: Parisians and tourists alike sought refuge inside in the wake of six attacks Friday night that left at least 127 dead and scores injured.
The moment Breuil heard the news that the Bataclan Theater had been attacked, his stomach sank. His little sister, Elodie, 23, had left that afternoon with six or so of her friends bound for the concert—an American group they liked called Eagles of Death Metal.
Breuil and his parents, his brother and his girlfriend immediately began calling Elodie's friends. Finally, they found one who'd been with her. The friend, who didn't want to be identified in the press, told them he was three meters from Elodie when the shooting began, but he quickly lost her. They all hit the ground. Some people began yelling to run for an exit nearby. A man next to him was paralyzed with fear and together, hand-in-hand, they ran. Amidst the chaos, he heard one of the two shooters say in French that this was President Francois Hollande's fault, "for everything that's happening in Syria."
The man clutching his hand fell, shot, dragging him down. Covered in blood, he got up and ran for the exit. Outside he found his friends, all except his girlfriend and Elodie. "Can you imagine?" says Breuil. "One day you're just a happy teenager, playing video games. The next you're laying in a pool of blood with corpses all around you."
The Breuil family called Elodie's cell phone all night—no answer. They called emergency lines and every hospital they could think of. Nothing. Frustrated, Alexis and his father, Emmanuel, left their home in Boulogne on the outskirts of Paris and drove to Salpetriere Hospital in the 13th arondissement. She wasn't there but they were told to go to the Hotel Dieu Hospital across from Notre Dame Cathedral on Isle de la Cite. There, they were told, they might find a list of injured or unidentified victims. They found no such list, but Hotel Dieu said to go to L'Ecole Militaire, a vast military complex next to the Eiffel Tower. The complex is so big that, when families arrive, there are white minivan shuttles driven by soldiers in fatigues that ferry them to the reception room to await word on their loved ones. A wall of press gathered outside.
"I understand the anger. I'm not angry. Maybe I will be," Breuil says wincing, "but I'm not right now. I worry that we'll make the same mistake as before, when the U.S. was attacked, by responding to violence with violence. I want to show the other cheek. Instead of responding with violent acts we have to understand what is the cause of the problem and work together to try and prevent it."
Though he cites the Bible, Mathew 5:39— "But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also"—Breuil is not religious. In fact, he thinks religion is part of the problem. "People say these extremists are stupid. They aren't stupid. They have another culture. They have a different climate, a different economy, a different language, a different culture. A different religion. And you have to try and put yourself in their place," he says.
That's what his sister, Elodie, a design student at Conde, did. She and their mother marched in the rally following the Charlie Hebdo attacks in January. "They did it to show their support," Breuil says.
By this time, it was 3:30 p.m., and they waited, fighting to hope. Finally, around 5:30 p.m., a man came out and announced they would be consulting with each family one by one. They got in line. "This is where we leave you," Breuil says. "Have hope for us. Have hope for France." But soon Breuil's hope was lost. Minutes later, he found out his sister was dead.
"I'm so so sorry. Is there anything I can do?" I asked Breuil.
"All you can do is inform the world about these horrible things that we do to ourselves," he responded.
Fomer French president Nicolas Sarkozy will demand the upcoming UN climate talks in Paris be postponed by several months following a wave of deadly attacks on the city, party sources told AFP Sunday.
The French government has said the conference, which begins on November 30, will take place as planned, but one of the party sources said: "Going ahead with it would mean taking unbelievable risks."

According to the rapper, he stopped sagged after he realized it made him appear stupid and he didn't want to pass across the wrong message to his clientele.
Speaking with Punch, the rapper said: "I think I grew up and realised it looked stupid. When I was a younger artiste, I did not care much about my image. But now that I am grown, I pay attention to my image because the people I perform for are my clients."
He further added that, "My client is a mature person who obviously can afford my services. You don't want your client to see you as irresponsible because tomorrow, when you go to the same client for a business proposition, he would not take you seriously if you are sagging.
